VinFast VF8's Unexpected Spinout: A Shocking Display of Power

The video, shared by Kyle Conner of Out Of Spec Reviews, showcases a VF8 behaving erratically when its creep mode encounters low traction on a snowy hill. It's a wild ride, and it's left many viewers both amused and alarmed.
The Creep Factor: A Unique Feature
Electric vehicles, unlike their internal combustion counterparts, don't naturally creep forward when you release the brake pedal. Most EVs, therefore, offer a creep function setting, allowing drivers to enable this feature if desired. In the VF8, this creep mode increases throttle when the car encounters resistance, ensuring it can creep uphill. However, when this increased throttle meets low traction, things get interesting.
Freak-Out Mode Engaged!
In the video, the VF8's driver doesn't touch the accelerator pedal at all. It's the car's computer that decides to go into full freak-out mode when it senses a low-traction situation. As soon as one rear wheel loses grip on the icy hill, the car seems to direct most of its power to that single wheel, rather than limiting power in creep mode. This causes the wheel to spin violently, even smoking the tire on ice!
The second attempt is even more terrifying. The VF8 directs all its power to the wheel with the least traction, which happens to be the driver's side rear tire. This causes the entire vehicle to rotate and slide down the hill, with the driver having no control over the throttle.
In the third attempt, with traction control disengaged, the VF8 tries to creep up the icy slope. However, the passenger side rear wheel loses traction, causing the car to spin it up and create a cloud of tire smoke and high-speed debris. The car's instrument panel then lights up, resembling a Christmas tree. This hazardous tendency linked to creep mode is a serious concern for VinFast owners.
